Dear Anonymous, If I had wanted your opinion, I would've asked.

I was casually checking my blog earlier, when I noticed this comment::

Martha - you have a great blog, one suggestion - remove the last motivational poster under Just for Laughs. It is not very funny and highly offensive to all of us in the disabled community.

Keep up the great posts!

Thanks-

A lurker

Well Lurker - This is where we are just going to have to agree to disagree. The poster amuses me, hence the reason why I placed it on my sidebar. If you find it offensive, don't look at it.

Now, before you deem me an absolute monster and politically incorrect, I realize that before the 90s, when the world got onto its politically correct band wagon, the term was used in a derogatory manner towards those in our society who were mentally challenged. I get that. I, however, do not refer to the mentally challenged in that way. I'm not that gauche.

One more thing, if you are so into defending the honor of the disabled community, at least have the balls to sign your real name.

So ANON wants to complain about something in YOUR house? That's like walking into MY home and asking me to take down a painting cause if offends them. That is just retarded.

And no, using that phrase is NOT a slam to the mentally challenged. Crap, I guess I can't say anything at all. If I say that's just dumb, then I offend the mute people. If I say that's just lame, then I offend the crippled or physically challenged people. What the hell?

How's about we not be so sensitive?

Signed,
Melissa who chooses to post under ANON, but signs her name anyway cause I got a pair....

If something offends me, I just don't read it or go there anymore.

I love your blog and have followed it since I first discovered the blogosphere wich hasn't been long. You have a great sense of humor and I love reading your posts. Not that it really matters, but I just wanted to say that I'm not personally offended by the "retard" poster but I can see how it could be offensive to one who is disabled or had a child with a disability. I can only imagine how hard it would be to live life as a disabled person and to be made fun of and most likely called "retard" at some point in their life. I don't want to get attacked by stating my thoughts here and I considered remaining anonymous but I really didn't want to be accused of not being ballsy.

Well who ever Lurker is just doesn't get it, or much else I would bet. Funny how some people go out of their way to see something and then complain about it. Besides that, if you are going to complain...MAN UP....what is this anoymous stuff. If you are big enough to complain be big enough to put your name on it. Just my opinion....lol

Melody,

Thanks for reading my blog. I definitely don't mean to be offensive by posting this poster. I can certainly understand where someone might be coming from if they have a handicapped child/loved one, but it was not meant in that regard.

Also, I appreciate the fact that you voiced your opinion AND signed your comment.

I have a sister who has Down's Syndrome who calls me, my family and her friends retarded all the time. So, would she be offending me, herself or the entire disabled population? Just wondering. ;] Do I say it back? Of course! I figure if my disabled sister can do it, I can, too.

Obviously the post was meant in fun and was not meant to make fun of disabled people but of people's behavior in general as they do dumb/odd things. Just as it is when my sister calls me retarded. I feel for people who don't have a sense of humor. Life must be very boring.

Thanks for keeping me entertained!
