Blame it on the boys in the family

On my way in to work every morning, I listen to 101.9 The End. I think that the DJ is totally hilarious. Well, about 2 weeks ago they started this new segment called "Battle of the Bad 70s Bands" and they've been playing all kinds of songs from the 70s, not all of them good.

This morning, they played "Convoy" by C.W. McCall. Now, for those of you who have no idea who C.W. is, let's just say he was ahead of his time. He was one of the early rappers. That's right, he 'talks' his songs instead of sings them.  (I was mortified when I realized I was actually singing along.)

How do I know about C.W., you ask? (Trust me -- I'm mortified that I even know who he is, let alone any of his 'songs'.) Well, when I was younger, my dad was left in charge of us 3 kids in the evenings that mom had to work. He'd make us dinner, which usually consisted of some sort of potato (fries, tots, etc.), fishsticks, and corn. Then, for entertainment he would load up the tape player with his kind of music - Willie Nelson, Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys, Hank Williams, Jr., and C.W. McCall. (My head hurts just thinking about it.)

Now, sad to say, my brother Ryan is corrupting the next generation. He plays C.W. for his kids and they actually love it and know all the words. I'm not sure if Travis has messed up Gabriel yet, but I'm sure it won't be long, especially when he finds out that there is a Best of C.W. McCall CD collection out there.

When I got to work, I immediately sent a "thanks a lot!" e-mail to the 3 boys in the family (dad, Ry, and Trav) blaming them for my shame in knowing all the words to "Convoy" and "East Bound & Down".  So far, Ryan is the only one that responded and of course he thought it was hilarious.  He promptly told me that on the family camping trip this past weekend, his kids did the entire song "Want Ad" without the music.  I told him that was just plain sad on way too many levels.  He also told me he would not be responsible for any of his actions or the actions of others if the CW McCall greatest hits CD shows up under the Christmas tree this year.  *sigh*
