To buy or not to buy...that is the question.

As you all know, I'm an avid reader.  I devour books as if they were a slice of Costco carrot cake.  I pick up books from the library at least 4 times a month (if not more), and not just one or two books, but sometimes even 6 or 7 at any given time and then they're returned the following week - all of them read.

Granted, some of you may be curious as to how I can do this - I don't have a family of my own - that's how.  I take care of any obligations I have, then I read, especially when there is nothing on TV, which seems to happen more and more.  Not to mention I'm a fast reader.

I have always been a reader.  When I was younger, and still living at home, I would sneak away to my room, lie in bed (my favorite place to read) and read for hours.  My mom would get curious as to where I was and send one of the boys to check on me.  They would invariably find me with my nose buried in a book.

I love to hold the book, smell the ink and paper of a brand new one, feel the weight of it in my hands as I read, turn each page eager to find out what's on the next one.  I love the whole experience.

Well, last weekend, as I was in Barnes and Noble getting the 2nd book in The Hunger Games trilogy, I happened to check out the Nook - B & N's answer to Amazon's Kindle.  I'm not gonna lie - I've decided that I want one.

So, my question to you is - Should I get one?  Do any of you have a Nook or Kindle?  If so, what do you think?  Everyone I've talked to that has one loves it.  I think I would love it even more if they came up with a lending service for a monthly fee.  That would make me happier than a butterfly in Spring.  (B & N's Nook actually allows you to borrow books from a friend and after 14 days - gone off your Nook.  How cool is that?)

Thoughts?

I know they're all the rage, but I just don't think I would enjoy it as much as the actualy BOOK experience.....

i've been considering this too. i love the portability of the kindle/nook.
i know a few people with the kidle, but i don't know anyone who has the nook.
i just wish they didn't cost so much.....

Luvpilot got me a Kindle for Christmas. He wanted to get me one last year, but I wasn't sure I really wanted it. I like have the actual book too. But then I found out it could read to me when we're on roadtrips, which is a bonus because I can't read in the car without getting sick. Plus I can get new releases without paying new release prices. The only thing I worry about is dropping it in the tub/pool which has been known to happen with me and books.

I recently got an ipod touch for my birthday and I put the free ebook app from Barnes and Noble on it. It was handy to read on as it is light and I could read in bed as my husband slept. I don't know how expensive the Nook and kindle are, but the B & N ebook app for ipod is great.

I was thinking about getting S one for Christmas...He LOVES to read as much as you...and the train ride to the city for him each day is reading time. When I brought up the idea of the Kindle...he was not that into it. He LOVES the whole reading experience...the actual book..the pages...he loves to keep the books he's read and look at them, sometimes even reading them multiple times. (he really does not even like the library because he does not like to give the books back..he'll do it...but he does not like it...) He does not like the idea of not being able to tun the pages IRL! So for now...he does not want one...who knows if someday he will!

You'll have to let me know what you end up doing!!!

did you decide yet? i'm really curious what you'll end up with...

(i have the kindle app on my iphone, but i find that the screen is just too small to read from it over an extended period of time.)
