A Bushel and a Peck

My mom loves to sing.

She sings while she does housework, she sings around the grandkids, and she sang when I was a kid just to annoy us - just kidding. She'd sing when the brothers and I were fighting (Love at Home), which only irritated me more than the boys already had, but I guess it did serve its purpose - we'd stop fighting.

One of the songs she enjoys singing is "A Bushel and a Peck". Up until yesterday, I'd never heard this song other than my mom singing it. (Apparently, it's a song from the musical Guys and Dolls. Who knew?) It's one of the songs in "Julie & Julia". It made me think of my cute mom. I started singing along - to annoy Michelle and everyone else sitting around me.

Just thought you'd like to enjoy this song, too. I found a video on YouTube. Here it is::

And mom, I love YOU a bushel and a peck and a barrel and a heap. You bet your pretty neck I do.

My Mom used to sing this song to me as well and now I sing it to my two year old daughter. The other Sunday at church we had a special lunch thing instead of a regular service and somehow my daughter got up on the stage and got a mic and started singing that song. Everyone laughed because I think they expected the preacher's daughter to sing something like "Jesus loves me" or whatever but No, it was "I love you....bushel and a peck". I can't wait to show her this clip tomorrow morning.
