A very patriotic way to spend the 4th

So I've been a bit of a blog slacker lately.  I don't really have any excuse other than I was in DC for the 4th of July.

I've always wanted to go to DC for the 4th just to experience the fireworks on The Mall.  I can now check that off of my list of things to do during my lifetime.

Friday night, after flying most of the day, we took a night tour of all the big monuments.  It was fabulous.  If you've never been to DC, this is an absolute must whenever you get a chance to go.

Saturday was spent at Arlington and the National Museum of American History (my favorite).

Sunday, we headed out to Mt. Vernon where we toured the mansion, witnessed day-time fireworks and toured the rest of the property.  After a quick rest and some dinner, we headed down to The Mall.  Fireworks started just after 9:00.  Me and about a million of my closest friends witnessed our nation's birthday with a bang.

Monday was museum day.  We hit all the major museums on The Mall.  Air and Space, Botanical Gardens, Art, the castle, Natural History, etc.

Tuesday, Tiffany and Michelle went to the National Archives.  I slept in and vegged.  My hips were hurting so bad by this point from all of the walking.  I then met them at the National Portrait Gallery where we saw an exhibit of Norman Rockwell's work from the collections of Steven Spielberg and George Lucas.  Very cool!

After that, it was off to the airport and home.

Here are just a few pics from the trip:
